BRITISH actor Jude Law has visited the Calais Jungle in a bid to highlight the plight of child refugees facing eviction from the camp.
The millionaire was one of 145 celebrities to sign a letter calling on David Cameron to allow hundreds of migrant children in the camp to come to the UK.
The petition addressed to the Prime Minister, which has been signed by 96,000 people, was written in response to the announcement by French authorities that they will demolish the southern part of the infamous camp.
According to charities working in Calais the bold move will destroy the homes of 3,000 people, including children and “uproot again those who have already had to abandon their homes due to war and persecution”.
But critics claim that many of those living in the camp are economic migrants trying to reach Britain for a better life.
Ministers have so far resisted calls to take more migrants from Europe, fearing it will encourage others to endanger themselves as they desperately try to reach the continent.
The letter – which was signed by celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Benedict Cumberbatch, Steve Coogan and Helena Bonham Carter – calls on Mr Cameron to ”intervene as a matter of urgency”.
Earlier this week Talented Mr Ripley star Jude encouraged the Prime Minister to grant “vulnerable” children living in the camp passage to Britain.
